About Dignity Organic Sanitary Pads

Founded by Dr. Vivian Mokome — A Movement for Health, Dignity & Empowerment.

What began as a heartfelt act of kindness has grown into a continent-wide movement transforming the lives of women and girls across Africa.

It all began when Dr. Vivian Mokome, through the Mokome Foundation, started visiting schools donating sanitary pads to young girls who were missing school due to lack of menstrual care. But what began as a simple effort to restore dignity soon revealed a deeper issue — the pads available to most disadvantaged girls were often made with recycled materials, harmful chemicals and toxins like dioxin and furan – which are known carcinogens. These unsafe products were causing infections, fibroids, and long-term reproductive health problems.

Determined to change this, Dr. Mokome made a bold decision: to ensure that high-quality, organic sanitary pads that protect women’s health were accessible for every African woman and girl. She envisioned a product designed with their well-being in mind.

In 2023, Dignity Organic Sanitaries was born — a proudly South African brand committed to health, quality, and empowerment. Every Dignity pad is made with organic, biodegradable, and chemical-free materials, infused with anions and far-infrared technology to support women’s hygiene and wellness. The Dignity Organic Sanitary pads are approved by the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority. Dr. Mokome believes that poverty should never mean inferiority — every woman deserves products that protect her health, not harm her.

But Dignity is more than just a brand — it is a movement for change.

Through a direct selling model, Dignity empowers thousands of men, women and youth to become entrepreneurs, creating income streams for their households while spreading awareness about menstrual health. This approach addresses both period poverty and economic poverty — turning compassion into opportunity.

The company’s mission is clear:

To alleviate period poverty by making high-quality organic pads accessible to over 80 million women in Africa — and to ensure that every household in Africa earns an income through Dignity.
